The Mustangs Have Entered the Round Pen!

Well, let's see where do I start?

Thursday night.......
Going to sleep was really hard! Enough said about that, on to better things.

Friday morning.....
We left the house for Piney Woods about 7:30. Our buddy Billy met us at the house and rode with us. Pick up started at 8. We were 4th in line. Our extended barn family the Wards met us there as well. When it came our time, I gave Stanley my brand new halters and lead ropes to put on my "babies". They rounded up The Fonz first. He was quite the gentleman. He ran into the chute and haltered without any problems. He literally jumped 7 feet to get in the trailer, but did so without any problems. Next they rounded up Mimzee.... in the corrals she was so timid and withdrawn. Well, someone fed her some dynamite bc when they ran her into the chute, she tried to seriously give her self brain damage from all the flailing and throwing her head she was doing. Stanley tried for a while to get the halter on her, but she didn't think that was the best idea! I can't believe she didn't like that brand new beautiful bright pink halter and lead rope I bought her! She did finally get it on, but she didn't like it NOT one bit! Ummmm, I think I might rethink the term babies. They aren't acting sweet right now! So, with both my mustangs in the trailer - barn here we come!

The ride for us is short from Piney Woods, it's all of about 11 miles to the barn. Cohn backed the trailer into the round pen entrance. We loaded Mimzee first thinking she would be the easiest to work first - well so much for that fading thought! She has decided that people are NOT her friends and she really doesn't care much for us. She snorted so much all I could do was laugh. Apparently the other mustangs had never spoken to her about self preservation - she has none! Mimzee doesn't like her head touched or any part to be touched as of right now! We thought she would be the easier of the two - man were we wrong! Cohn worked and fouight with her a while, but then we decided she needed to rest and take in the sights. Maybe The Fonz was telepathecially send her messages of what she "should" be doing! Cohn unloaded the The Fonz. He lept from the back of the trailer to almost the center of the round pen. Man, this little dude has some serious atheletism. He snorted and blew and pranced around like some sort of Trojan horse. He is the cutest little thing, but whew does he need some serious spa time. His mane is a dreadlock and what it left of his tail is one hot mess! I can see now, I will be spending lots of time at Sallys Beauty Supply looking for things to help this man out - I mean its not pretty!
Cohn worked with them about 3 hours then our good friend Marsha from Fl arrived. She too has 2 mustangs to pick up from Piney Woods. Our dear friend Billy was at the barn and Cohn handed The Fonz over to him. Cohn told him if he didn't do anything else... just aggravate the stew out of him! Billy didn't hesitate, he grabbed the lead rope and it was on! We were gone about 2 hours and when we came back - a miracle had happened at DLFS! Billy had him leading and rubbing all over him and he was even laying down! He and Mimzee were not best friends. Billy said, "you gave me a blister horse, so now I see how its going to be with us!" You know you have friends and then you have FRIENDS and Billy is one of those who sticks with you no matter what - blisters and all. Thanks Billy -you are "The Man".

When Cohn & Marsha arrived back at the barn - there are now 4 wild mustangs at the barn! Have we lost our minds - yes I think we have. Cohn had called in reinforcements with a good friend of our Asa Pippen from GA. He was coming to help Cohn & Billy out this weekend. He showed up and here is where the weekend gets good. I have literally never in my life laughed so much and so hard as I did this weekend with those 3 guys. The things they say and how they act - well there just aren't words! We had so much fun the first 6 hours with those 3 and those 4 mustangs. They would take turns and then make fun of each other.... those of you who missed out on this fun and entertainment, let me just say- it was a show!

Saturday night after a LONG day of work - we had a cookout with tons of good food and lots of laughs! The guys were at times more entertaining than the mustangs... they were hysterical. It was a great day with lots of progress. I bet I know 3 guys who will sleep well. The funny thing is - all 3 guys have rope burns, blisters and 2 of them have hematomas on their legs, but Marsha and I are unscathed! Why is that you ask - because we are WAY smarter than they and let them do all the nasty yucky stuff.

Long story short - we made HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE progress with the mustangs this weekend! The Fonz is AWESOME and is ready to learn. Mimzee made gigantic leaps and bounds. She let us start touching her and she lunges now. I have some truly phenomenal pics of all 4 horses and some of the flying ballet moves they would make as they tried to play nice with the humans. I am not sure how to post those, but will work on that.

Lots to see and do with them this week- I have made my list of goals, so we shall see how well that goes!

A New Day... A New Dawn

I am SO excited over the progress both mustangs have made. Mimzee is super smart & athletic! She does some phenomenal things. Her tail has also grown about 5 inches since the video was filmed in November. I am REALLY excited about that. I am MORE excited about the fact she lets me rub her, touch her & the look in her eyes for some reason makes my heart melt! She has hip numbers branded on her which means she went through 3 adoptions and no one wanted her or she has been in long tern capitivity which still means no one wanted her. Well I wanted her and I know we are going to be best friends one way or another! Now The Fonz - he is such an awesome little horse! I LOVE him to pieces. He does this funny snorting thing all the time and it cracks us up. He does the coolest thing when lunging him... I am going to try and video today and put it up on the barn page. Its SO neat! He too is super smart and very talented with his movement and body placement. He needs some SERIOUS SERIOUS spa treatment time. His tail is one big really ugly dread, and his mane is long and beautiful minus the HUGE dreads in it. So.... when he finally gets a bath, and spa treatments, I think he will the cutest little Roman nosed gelding in the world!

They each have their strengths, and that is what we hope to play up with each of them. They are both going to end up being super nice horses. I like The Fonz just fine, but there is something about a mare that I just LOVE! Either way - they are both mine and they have hit the lottery when it comes to horses. They will live a life of luxury full of love, good feed (Total Equine) and lots of attention. So.... my goal for this week with them is - BATH TIME!

I LOVE MIMZEE & THE FONZ

The excitement is building

Today is Monday - the start of another week! The only difference about this week is....MUSTANGS ON FRIDAY! Can you tell I am getting SOSOSOSOSO EXCITED?? When I try to close my eyes at night - thats all I can think about!!

I have had lots of time to think, plan & process what all I am going to do when I get the mustangs to the farm, BUT what I really need to start thinking about is how well my dirt skiing skills are! Do you think I will get lucky and get two cupcakes who will just walk up to me with loving eyes so happy to have a new owner??? Ha - I think not! Hey it doesn't hurt to dream does it?!?! So, this is why I am EVER SO thankful for the awesome husband I have bc I know he won't let me get drug around too long before he steps in to help me (or save, rescue, protect me)- whew... thank goodness I made a good choice in husbands! HA

For those of you who don't really know me... I am a list-a-holic! I plan my life out each day with a list and mark things off as I go. So, its only natural that this week there are mutlitple lists to complete! I have a list of things to get finished at the barn before Thursday, a list of things to complete in our new tack room apartment, and a notebook of things to get done at house before all our friends arrive.... BUT at the top of my list is a new pair of really good gloves. I am just a little attached to the skin on my hands; I really don't care to have it all removed from the mustangs pulling or sending me dirt skiing. Sorry folks.. I am might be tough, but I like my skin ON my hands, not burnt off or ripped off!

So... as I plan my goal list for Friday - I am not even sure where to start! This uncertainity has my mind a little boggled. I plan out everything, but with this I don't think my planning will truly have any impact. So... I am a free bird just waiting to take flight into the unknown on Friday! (I am really not this deep of a thinker, but the word choice just cracked me up as I read it aloud! HAHAHA) Back to reality -I am SO excited that all I can think about is pulling up to Piney Woods bright and early Friday morning and getting my two new "babies" loaded up and headed to the barn. There is a bit of optimism & skeptisism in my thoughts though, I think Mimzee (the paint mare) will be much more passive and easier than The Fonz (the little gelding). I think just by watching his mannerisms on the video a thousand and one times, that he might have a little of the Napolean syndrome going on - we shall see Friday!

So.... I shall be like a kid on Christmas Eve Thursday night - I won't be able to sleep a wink. I would seriously go to Piney Woods and sleep in my truck and trailer, but pretty positive they won't allow that and those actions might possibly border on horse stalker mentality! (BIG sigh)... I guess we will just have to get up at the crack of dawn and let the journey begin then!

I should stop typing now and get back to double checking all my lists to make sure I haven't overlooked anything super duper important for me to get accomplished this week. These are the weeks that I think cloning is an awesome idea... if only. Well since that action isn't possible, I will just double up on Rolaids and stomach meds!

Hope everyone has an awesome week! Stay tuned to the adventure - it hasn't even started yet!

One week from today.......

One week from today we pick up my 2 mustangs for the SEMM! Can you tell I am a little excited? Excited probably isn't even the best word to describe how full of jubilation I am. I named the mare Docs Magical Mimzee & the gelding Docs Author Fonzarelli. I think they are both just the cutest things ever!

I am NOT the best tech person, I don't journal real well, have to MAKE myself update our webpage and forget to FB about what is going on at the barn....... BUT I am going to try really really hard to keep a blog of my experiences with these mustangs. (notice I put a disclaimer in here about trying and NOT promising) I might even have to go as far as bribing one the barn girls to help me out with this or keep it updated.

Any whoo.... I AM SUPER DUPER excited for next Friday to get here. This is going to be one ride you aren't going to want to miss, so buckle up and stay tuned! Let the fun begin.

Smiles & Hugs,
